FAQs

What is the best way to pay?

I accept cash, check, or Venmo.

Is there a sliding scale for financial difficulties?

If the prices listed are in a range that feels impossible, please reach out and there are a variety of payment plans/sliding scale options. I believe everyone should be able to receive an education in music regardless of financial background.

What materials are required for lessons?

Materials required varies depending on the student and their level. We’ll discuss this during the start of lessons as we identify the student’s goals. If any assigned materials present a financial difficulty for you, let me know and we’ll find a way to get them to you.

Generally,
For saxophone lessons:
• Always bring your band music, any music you have, or any music you are interested in learning.
• Having a notebook is highly encouraged to have for writing down practice goals and homework, though not always necessary.

For composition lessons:
• Access to a piano is highly recommended, though I understand this isn’t always possible.
• If you play an instrument, and are wanting to compose for that instrument, bring it to the lesson.
• Staff paper is required for handwritten work and notes. It can be printed online for free here
• If a computer is preferred, a free notation software like MuseScore or recording software like Reaper works well, though there are many paid options too.

How much practice is needed?

A very good standard is 30 minutes of practice every day with a lesson each week to achieve the best progress. More importantly is consistency, so if there isn’t enough time, then so long as you have a consistent schedule you will make progress. All progress is good progress! And I always tell my students, you will get as much out of lessons as you put into them.
