Old and New

“Old and New” simply stems from the fact that there are many recurring, old, themes throughout the piece and many new ones as well. Even at the very end, in reference to the very beginning, there is a sparkle of something new in the last chord.

People may find their own meaning in this piece, whether that’s creating a fantastical world of adventure with a full blown plot like an epic novel, or simply connecting to the music with feelings that have no words. Each audience member will inevitably experience something different.

However, for me, it is reminiscent of one of the many stories we all share in life. A story of the old and the new.

The Old and the New dance together in the moonlight, sometimes holding on tightly and other times lightly. They are in constant discourse, through both sound and silence. At times the Old gets older, with occasional pieces falling through the air and getting wisped away by the wind. Old never fully falls apart though, as New is able to gently hug and twirl repairs into the Old. Threads of other beings floating through the air land gently right into place on New, like a puzzle piece. Though Old gets older, and New gets newer, they both continuously grow brighter each day and night that they dance. It is fantastical, full of joyous moments, quiet moments, and loud moments. At the end of the story, old and new are still dancing, forever in each other’s grasp.
